’tis the Season – thanks MJ from Around the Way!

’tis the season to give.
Marjolyn from mjfromaroundtheway.com – an amazing Vancouver blog – gave us the best Christmas present yet. Instead of a box of chocolates, some generic Christmas card, Marj donated some dollars to Enspire Foundation on behalf of SugarCane Skincare.
Enspire Foundation helps promote the education of children in developing countries by building libraries and empowering youth.
Thanks MJ from around the way! You made our holiday ♥
It’s that time of year again!
Hope your stockings are stuffed and your tinsel is hung, ’cause Christmas is right around the corner!
In the spirit of giving, we are offering 40% off all our products. Just email us at sugarcaneskincare@gmail.com and we’ll deliver your goods like Santa’s little helpers would.

updating you
oh the life of an entrepreneur. Life has been busy, I’m not going to lie. But life has been good. I had the opportunity to travel this past month to Rome, different areas in Spain and then to New York. During this trip, there was a lot of time for reflection and a lot of time to gather my thoughts. Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, I’m often told that I was born to do this. That I was built with the abilities and grew up to learn the skills. True as it may, everyone still has to go through constant self discovery.
lesson #1 learned about being an entrepreneur: stick to your gut. it’s usually right. yes, be open to opinions and, often, criticism, but know what you want and go after that.
lesson #2 learned about being an entrepreneur: learn and know your passion. this goes along with lesson #1 about sticking to your gut. if you continue on with something that isn’t what you’re passionate about and isn’t what you want, you’re not going to ever be satisfied and take that deep breathe of satisfaction after each day. and being your own boss, being able to take responsibility deserves a deep breathe of satisfaction at the end of the day – if only to gear you up for the next.
little battles are lost and won. all I know is that there are many more ahead for me, and I’ve got my ammo ready to go. I’ll continue to share as time goes on and promise I’ll update more often. xoxo
Trip to the big TO
Just got back yesterday from a 4 day whirlwind trip to Toronto. I’ve never been and after this trip, I’ll be back for more
Originally tempted by LG Fashion Week, and then persuaded by stores who are interested in carrying SugarCane, I was on my way in a blink of an eye. Having met up with my very fashionable buddy from iStyleu, we crashed the media party at Holt Renfrew. Beyond the glitz and glamour of Canadian TV personalities, we ran into the man behind Joe Fresh Style and founder of Club Monaco Joe Mimran.

Other local celeb sightings include Project Runway Canada’s latest winner Sonny Fong, who was to show his most anticipated collection of VAWK later in the week.

After an evening of wining and schmoozing away, we found ourselves browsing through the Holts Renfrew beauty section. Being idealists, here’s a picture of me pointing to the Holt’s beauty shelves where I one day hope to find SugarCane

The quick stop to Toronto was as fun as it was tiring! I do hope to go back soon and see more of the city than I have! Here’s my love to you, TO – xoxo.
Now, off to Europe!
We’ve got FLARE

At one of our first public appearances, SugarCane got snapped to be in the social pages of November’s FLARE. In attendance of the WearElse Fall Fashion event at Park Royal, I was joined by “Party-goers” Cassie Gill, Arpen Thand, Joyce from Noir Lash Lounge, Melissa Murphy and Jonah Combes. We rubbed shoulders with the city’s most fashionable and beautiful people, including native Vancouverite turned Editor-in-Chief of FLARE Lisa Tant.
We’ll be out and about, so be sure to check us out!
Typhoon Ondoy Fundraiser
I was recently in Manila, Philippines preparing our distributor for the Philippine launch of SugarCane later this month at the 10th Health, Wellness & Beauty Exhibit at SM Mega Mall. On the day I was to leave for Vancouver, a massive rain fall, wind and storm occurred in Manila. In 3 hrs, over 3 months worth of rain fell. The streets flooded and it was the most feeling of stranded I ever felt…and I was on the 6th floor of a condo. Can you imagine what it was like for those in Marikina or other areas who’s flooding ensued up to the neck? Where massive flooding occurred so that your house filled with muddy water and left you running to your roof for relief? And other than that, the government was of very little help. In my frustration to try and get some information about my flight out of Manila, I did not hear until the next morning of what little supplies like rubber boots, boats, etc. the government or NGO aids had. It was outstanding to witness.
I found this video collage on YouTube to be a vivid depiction of the effects of Ondoy in Manila:
Vancourites have united to help raise funds for the victims of Ondoy. Salamat Special Edition:Typhoon Ondoy Relief Fundraiser is happening Tuesday October 6th from 6pm-1pm at Box Studios (1622 Franklin Street). This all ages event is at $10 donation at the door and all silent auction and funds raised will 100% be going to the Ondoy Victims. Also, bring blankets and clothing to pack a big ‘balikbayan’ box to go back to the Phils as well.
Hope to see you all there!
